法新社称，德奎利亚尔的儿子弗朗西斯科·佩雷斯·德奎利亚尔接受媒体采访时透露，其父于当地时间3月4日晚在其家乡秘鲁去世。
“在经历艰难一周后，我的父亲去世了。他于今晚8时9分（秘鲁当地时间）去世，安息了。”弗朗西斯科说。
德奎利亚尔1920年出生于秘鲁首都利马，于1982-1991年期间担任联合国的第五任秘书长，是联合国历史上第一位、也是迄今为止唯一一位来自拉丁美洲地区的秘书长。

He persistently held a dialogue on the reunification of Cyprus, led the mediation between Britain and Argentina on the Falkland / Malvinas Islands Dispute, facilitated the formal ceasefire between Iran and Iraq in 1988, coordinated the withdrawal of the former Soviet Union from Afghanistan, promoted the election of Cambodia and the establishment of a new government, and the independent transition of Namibia.
At the same time, his team also developed a central American development plan, paving the way for Nicaragua to conduct elections under the supervision of the United Nations, which is the first time in the history of the United Nations to supervise the elections of an independent country. On his last day as Secretary General of the United Nations, he helped El Salvador, an American country, reach a peace agreement.
