Trump remains in 'exceptional health,' doctor says after president's check-up at Walter Reed
President Donald Trump remains in "exceptional health," his physician said after the president underwent a "comprehensive follow-up evaluation" at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday as part of his "ongoing health maintenance plan."
The update came in a letter from Dr. Sean Barbarella, the White House physician, released Friday evening.
The visit included advanced imaging, lab testing and preventive health assessments conducted by a team of specialists, according to the letter.
"These evaluations were performed in coordination with leading academic and medical consultants to ensure optimal cardiovascular health and continued wellness," the doctor wrote.
Over the summer, the White House said Trump wasdiagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, after he was seen with deep bruises on his hand and swollen legs.
Chronic venous insufficiency, is common in older adults. Treatment typically can include wearing compression stockings, elevating legs, or minor procedures on affected veins or surgery in more severe cases.
The letter Friday did not provide an update on the vein condition.
"President Trump continues to demonstrate excellent overall health," Barbarella wrote in the letter. "His cardiac age-a validated measure of cardiovascular vitality via ECG-was found to be approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age. He continues to maintain a demanding daily schedule without restriction."
The doctor also said Trump received a flu shot and updated COVID-19 booster shots in anticipation of upcoming foreign travel.
The letter concluded: "President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance."
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump said he would visit Walter Reed for what he called a "semiannual physical."
The visit Friday came about six months after his last physical exam, also at Walter Reed.
In a statement on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump would visit Walter Reed, just outside Washington, D.C., in Bethesda, Maryland, "for a planned meeting and remarks with the troops" and while there he would "stop by for his routine yearly checkup."
Speaking Thursday, Trump said he felt he was in great shape.
"I like to check, always early, always be early," Trump said. "It's a lesson for a lot of people."
He added, "I think I'm in great shape, but I'll let you know. ... Physically, I feel very good. Mentally, I feel very good."
After his last physical in the spring, Trump boasted about his performance on a cognitive test, saying he "got every answer right."
