Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing ahead with campaigning for president days afterPresident Joe Biden's decision to leave the 2024 race-- a decisionhe explained during an Oval Office addressto the nation on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, Harris spoke to the American Federation of Teachers convention in Houston, Texas. She heads back to Washington, D.C., where she will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- a day afterhe spoke at a joint meeting of Congress.
Harris has secured commitments from enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee if they all honor their commitment when voting, according to ABC News reporting.
Harris spoke with reporters after she landing back at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington Thursday, making a point of saying she is ready to debate Donald Trump on Sept. 10.
"I have agreed to the previously agreed upon September 10 debate. He agreed to that previously. Now it appears he's backpedaling, but I'm ready, and I think the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on a debate stage, and so I'm ready. Let's go," she said.
The debate is scheduled to be hosted by ABC News, with anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis moderating.
In recent days, Trump has requested another network to moderate the debate.
